Tyler Rix is an International saxophonist and composer who rose to fame in his early teens on BBC 2's 'Classical Star'. Signed by Universal Classics and Jazz aged 15, Rix went on to release a number one selling debut solo saxophone album, ‘Ascent’ in 2009 that became Classic FM’s ‘Album Of The Week’.
Born in January 1993, Rix was a talented footballer, coming through the West Ham Football Academy and winning the FA Schoolboys' National Cup but after suffering a career ending injury, he hung up his boots to make music his career. After 8 years at the club, Rix signed his million pound record deal with Universal Classics & Jazz on the pitch at Upton Park.
Tyler was offered a place at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in Barbican London in 2003 to study classical and jazz saxophone. In July 2008, Rix won Junior Guildhall's most prestigious prize - the Lutine Prize. In 2007, 2008 and 2009, Rix was awarded the Sax.co.uk Scholarship by Junior Guildhall. He has made guest solo appearances with the BBC Concert Orchestra, Birdland Jazz Club NYC, Anhembi Centre Sao Paulo and the Royal Albert Hall London.
Tyler formed The Tyler Rix quartet age 15 which went on to perform at the Vortex in the London Jazz Festival, Trafalgar Square for the St George's Day Celebrations in front of 10,000 people, The British Airways VIP lounge, The House of Lords for the Commonwealth Conference for over 50 delegates including Barack Obama & Princess Anne.
Since 2007, Rix has has gone on to perform at venues across the globe such as: The Anhembi Centre (Sao Paulo), The Yacht Club (Monaco), Birdland Jazz Club (NYC), Moxy Hotel (Munich), The Royal Albert Hall (London), The Millennium Centre (Cardiff), Blenheim Palace (Oxford) and The Mermaid Theatre for BBC Radio 2's Friday Night Is Music Night with the BBC Concert Orchestra. He has appeared on Blue Peter, London Tonight, BBC News, Classic FM, Radio 5 Live, and regional radio stations.
Rix was selected by Coca Cola to ‘Inspire A Generation’ as the Final Olympic Relay Torchbearer for the London 2012 Olympic Games, where he took the torch into Hyde Park lighting the cauldron infront of 80,000 people and approximately 300 million worldwide - the largest media coverage of an Olympic Torch Relay ever to date.
Having walked the catwalk for the likes of Versace at Milan Fashion Week, Issey Miyake at Paris Fashion Week, Ted Baker and Superdry at London Fashion Week as well as being featured in both GQ and Vogue in recent years, Tyler has enjoyed combining music with fashion, performing at the 'Winq Magazine Man Of The Year Awards' and the 'Attitude Awards' in recent times.
